Contribution to The Lotus Effect installation at The Rubin Museum (2021)

“What would you say to the most important people in your life before they or you die?”

In his book The Four Things That Matter Most, Dr. Ira Byock discusses what to say to the most important people in your life before they or you die: Thank you, I love you, Forgive me, and I forgive you. This handful of words invites us to connect and transform.

The story

I contributed this piece to The Lotus Effect, a participatory installation at the Rubin Museum. Artist Uttam Grandhi created this installation in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, posted instructions on how to create an origami lotus, and invited the public to participate. Lotuses, known for growing in the mud, are symbols of rebirth.

As a bookmark or reminder in your meditation space or on your desk, it can also be a soft reminder to oneself of the big picture.

Correction: I later found out this is the Ho’oponopono prayer, popularized by Dr. Hew Len.
